SCHOOL VIOLENCE

elotmani hassaneSchool is one of the most important places where people get educated. It’s one of the basic elements that human beings rely on in order to learn various things about the world around them.  School is where learners in all over the world learn what is wrong and what is right. It reveals them the path of an easier, happier and conscious life. However, these sentences do not only describe how schools are but indeed how they should be. Unfortunately, today, there are many crucial and prevalent problems in schools; one of the most terrifying of these is: violence.

Violence in schools is one of the most extensively existing problems in our schools nowadays. The inhabitants of school i.e. students who ought to be ignorant and unconscious about hurting others, prevalently use violence. This led up to commit numerous crimes against students, teachers, administrators and educational institutions as well. If ugly things occur in most beautiful places, then, something is wrong.

The phenomenon of violence in schools is considered as one of the most horrible issues our educational system suffers from. For instance, if you have a look at news papers, television and internet, you will discover that violence in schools is the most controversial issues extensively discussed.

For this reason, we all have to question ourselves as teachers, students, parents, administrators and decision makers about the main reasons that caused this monstrous phenomenon to emerge.

Everyday a student, a teacher or even an administrator is hurt purposely or accidentally by another person. There are many things that cause people to take violence out on other people. It could possibly be family disorder, lack of guidance available for children and the detrimental effects of the media.

The first and the foremost reason for the increase of violence in schools concerns family disorder especially parental indifferences. It is an evidential fact that children who do not have the support of family and get attention from their parents probably become emotionally disturbed and insecure individuals. Consequently, if such individuals are living in societies, the rate of violent incidences increases dramatically not only in schools but also in every element of the society.

The second reason of the increase of violent incidences in schools concerns lack of guidance service available for children. Because of the fact that the school age years is the most important period in a child’s life which can be the most dangerous one if guided wrongly. Not having a guideline may have terrible consequences in the future that violence in schools are the most prominent one among them.

The third reason for this phenomenon concerns the detrimental effects of the media. If an individual is emotionally disturbed and psychologically unbalanced, the effects of the media become especially prominent since such a person is the perfect candidate of being affected from it. Moreover, media, for instance, tries to get people’s attention with anything possible. They ignore norms, realities, and most importantly ethics to make money. Therefore, the media including the internet, violent video games and violent movies should take some responsibility when showing violent images to public.

In this vein, you can determine for yourself that the causes mentioned above have contributed in a direct manner to cause students to perpetrate several unconscious behaviors against other students, teachers, and educational institutions as well. A good example of this is the cruelty and savagery that many teachers in all parts of the country exposed to by their students.

Accordingly, there are also teachers who have been beaten, injured and even killed by their colleagues in the presence of students, parents and society at large. It is not surprising, then, that students or any member of the society will be encouraged to shout at, make fun of, and provoke teachers. They will also be encouraged to behave badly, since the average of the society behaves badly towards them.

I strongly believe that the more violently teachers, students, and administrators are treated, the more tarnished the reputation of the educational system in Morocco grows.  Hence, if these unconscious behaviors increase in our society, the Moroccan citizens have to bear in mind that their education is in danger and that their future could be despondent.

Regrettably, the educational system in Morocco will never be developed as far as teachers continue to have no value, no dignity, no respect and no recognition in the society.

In conclusion, the phenomenon of violence in schools is getting worse day by day unless authorities take some stricture measures and stop it from worsening. It is needless to say that family is the most important medium that can solve the problem of violence in schools. However, guidance services have to be available especially for children. Meanwhile, the influence of the media has to be searched more carefully in order to create a better youth.
