International TEFL certification

The essay writing contest is perhaps the most fascinating event for every student since it gives an opportunity to participate in creative fights with other people. And everyone knows that at essay contests sometimes taking an honorable second place means one thing — to lose. That is why in this article we will consider how to increase the chances of winning in an essay contest. You can easily win the contest, if you turn to experts in writing an essay with a request “Please, write my essays at the highest level”. Then you will get a perfect paper, performed taking into account all the requirements. But, if you decide to write an essay without any help, it is important to pay attention to a number of details.

Some Theory for the Beginning

An essay is a literary prose genre that is characterized by:

  • Small volume;
  • Free content;
  • Associations;
  • Impressions of the writer.

The key factor is free content. This means that the writer can represent the information and its structure as he sees fit. However, almost all essay contests have a strict framework of limitations — the volume of text. That is why it is not enough to have some thoughts on the topic, they also need to be correctly presented and meet the established limit.

Key Aspects of Writing an Essay for the Contests

Here is a list of what can increase the odds of winning essay contests:

  • Original idea. In the foreground in an essay is the personality of the author, his thoughts, feelings, attitude to the world. This is the main installation of a paper. However, we must remember that, despite the freedom of creativity, writing in the genre of essays is not at all easy, since you need to find an original idea (even on traditional material), a non-standard look at any problem.
  • The clear structure of a paper. The structure of an essay should be logical and is determined by the requirements for it: the thoughts of the author of the essay on the problem are represented in the form of short abstracts; thought must be supported by evidence — therefore, the thesis is followed by arguments.
  • Answers to questions. Essay contests provide an opportunity for students to present their thoughts in the form of a text before the jury. But the human mind is arranged in such a way that thoughts are usually represented in the form of the following questions: “What will be the result …?”, “Why cannot I …?”, “How long will it last …?”, etc. These questions are unanswered. However, the use of such questions is inappropriate in this type of paper. Let’s imagine that we are the jury members. The works of participants present a lot of questions that are not answered. But you have to consider a great number of such papers. Thinking about each of them is a complicated task. Besides, it is very difficult to understand the basic idea of the text while reflecting on each question without an answer. As a result, much effort and time are spent. But another situation arises when there are answers to questions. In this case, the jury does not evaluate the question, but the answer to it, its uniqueness and depth. Therefore, try to answer the questions in your essay and give explanations, if it is necessary.
  • Examples in the work. This is another useful point that can be effectively used in essay contests. You can use examples from social practice, history, literature, as well as from your own experience. When using examples, attention should be paid to their persuasiveness. All examples should be prepared in advance. The examples allow us to distract a little from the flow of thoughts of the writer and introduce a special coloring into the text.
  • Impression. The writer should make a positive impression on the jury. To do this, it is necessary to write an interesting essay. Imagery, paradoxical aphorism is usually used by the creative author. To convey personal perception, mastering the world, the writer of the essay selects numerous examples, uses analogies, draws parallels and involves all kinds of associations. This type of paper is characterized by the use of numerous expressive means, in particular, epithets, metaphors, comparisons, allegorical and parable images, symbols, etc.
  • Essay design. The monolithic essays are very common. They are usually represented as a single block of text. Of course, such a text does not attract the slightest attention. Now just think that the jury needs to analyze 50-100 of these essays per day. Therefore, your text should be logically structured and comfortable to read. You should separate paragraphs with an empty line, use lists, etc.

Thus, put the acquired knowledge into practice — and you will surely become the winner of the essay competition.
