English Instead of French in Moroccan Education: is the dream about to come true?

International TEFL certification

After the late and successive official recommendations to adopt English in higher education, there have started over calls for substituting French with the Shakespeare language in Moroccan curricula. That’s what did provoke a wide dispute in the last session held by the General Assembly of the Supreme Council for Edcation, Training and Scientific Research.

Several members strongly defended the idea of adopting English instead of French in the curricula, justifying that it’s the language of science. On the other hand, others were for keeping French language which has many ties with Morocco. The issue, according to them, is not only pedagogical but rather political.

It’s worth mentioning that the General Assembly’s strategic report, which is expected to come with several surprises including the English language issue, will be introduced in few weeks to HM. the king of Morocco, Mohamed VI.
