Morocco and Germany will take over the co-chairmanship of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) on January, 2017.The event mainly aims at promoting the Forum’s contribution to the United Nations’ Global Compact on Migration.
The handover of the co-chairmanship has taken place during the annual GFMD conference in Dhaka in Bangladesh. Therefore, it will be for firs time The two countries will host the GFMD.
The GFMD-2017 will be held under the motto “Towards a Global Social Contract on Migration and Development” with participation of 160 countries. It will address in particular the balance of interests between migrants and their countries of origin, transit states and destinations.
