Michael Köhler: UE looking forward to extend Cooperation with Morocco, to Energy field.

“The EU is ready to consider the possibility of extending its cooperation program and aspires to integrate the energy sector to other programs as part of a vision for sustainable economy” said Köhler , Director for the Neighbourhood, DEVCO European Commission, during his talks with the Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, Mr  Abdelkader Amara.

According Mr Amara, the European official expressed UE’s interest in the production of electricity in Morocco for the local and/or international market.

On other hand, the Moroccan minster stressed the strategic choice of Morocco to adopt an energy mix "realistic and pragmatic" affirming that the introduction of natural gas, of which the roadmap is being finalized, will diversify and reach "energy balance between fossil and renewable."

The Morocco opens promising prospects continuing its momentum for the interconnection with the South and the opening of its electricity market, including medium and low voltage, said the Minister.

“The development of the energy sector in Morocco is part of a regional integration vision in which South-South cooperation has a special position” he stated, emphasizing the importance of the integration of the European electricity market for  Morocco.

The interviews were held in the presence of the European Union Ambassador in Morocco, Rupert Joy and several members of the EU Delegation to Morocco.
