When it comes to teaching writing in particular, the following proverb has significant relevance.
“ If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime “
1. Similarly when it comes to this skill, teach your students how to write not what to write : Explicit teaching of writing.
2. Zoom your objectives: make them clear from the very start.
3. Teach and keep reminding your students that writing is a process (Proccess Writing) which includes various stages ( Brainstorming – Planning the content – Organising – Drafting – Evaluation – Revising – Editing – Publishing ) that leads the final product.
4. Give enough time to each stage/skill of writing.
5. Don’t teach writing only for correction, returning the students’ works full of red ink.
6. You don’t have to read every piece of writing. Encourage your students themselves to revise, edit their works.
7. Edit a sample of student’s writing on the board as class activity.
8. Ask students to write summaries at the end of the lessons.
9. Keep in mind that formalization plays role in developing students’ writing.
10. Have students write about familiar topics.
11. Be patient with them.
Exactly we need to zoom our objectives. Interesting content I enjoyed. Thanks
