Conditional Sentences: If I …………..
There are four types of the if-clauses:
1- Conditional type O:
"When we talk about things that are generally or always true"
Examples:
a. If you freeze water, it becomes a solid.
b. Plants die if they don't get enough water.
c. If my husband has a cold, I usually catch it.
d. If public transport is efficient, people stop using their cars.
e. If you mix red and blue, you get purple.
2-Conditional type 1:
"Possible to Happen"
Examples:
- If you don't leave, I'll call the police.
- If you don't drop the gun, I'll shoot!
- If you drop that glass, it will break.
- Nobody will notice if you make a mistake.
- If I have time, I'll finish that letter.
- What will you do if you miss the plane?
3-Conditional type 2:
"Condition in theory possible to happen"
Examples:
– If I were a millionaire, I would buy a castle.
– If I had a lot of money, I would travel around the world.
4-Conditional type 3:
"Condition not possible to happen because it's too late"
Examples
- If he hadn't been careful, he would not have had that terrible accident.
- I would have passed the exam if I had worked hard .
- Her father would not have died, if he had gone to the doctor.
