An Unforgettable Visit to The Elderly House Care by The English Club
By Mr Fellah Hassan,
Teacher of English At Nador Al Faid High School
The Elderly Care House was at its most vibrant as our English Club visited the House yesterday.
Within the framework of the Friday activities Al-Faid-E-C went on an outing to the Elderly Care House in Nador last Friday February 7th.Upon arrival ,the visitors were warmly received by the responsible of the House, Mr. Said Soussi, who gratefully received the club’s donation; it was in the form of food, sanitary and hygiene supplies and other much needed necessities.
The visitors were then shown to different constituents of the House; refectories, dormitories…where they met and talked to the residents –men and women of different ages –who positively responded, opened up to the visitors and consequently got engaged in group chats talking each about their stories and life experiences before and in the House…It was actually a moment of great emotion to see how some of our students, moved by what they heard and saw, could not hold back their tears.
But it was on the other hand also moment of satisfaction; the satisfaction of sharing with people with certainly a lot of needs, but above all the need to share, to have someone apart from inmates to talk to, they need the warmth of family and beloved ones who in a moment of misfortune for one reason or another had turned their back to them, left them frail and vulnerable as they were, abandoned to alienation and despair.
Late in the afternoon, tea time was a turning point. Moods started to cool down as our students together with volunteers from the House were busy setting the tables. The place was gradually overwhelmed by a festivity-like atmosphere when cheerful voices rose among the students singing songs and chanting chants that cheered up the dull House. The residents enchantingly responded and joined in. The whole House became vibrant at the rhythm of those songs and chants and immersed in an atmosphere of joy and happiness.
True our contribution as a high school club was substantially significant but more significant was the warmth and the happiness we brought to this kind of people.
I would like to say thank you to you all who contributed to this charity action. Thank you to our beloved club members, and special thanks to the campaigners who didn’t spare any efforts to make this visit a success.
