At a news conference in The Hague, Netherlands, Europol (The European Police) have stated that 680 football matches played in 30 countries were found fixed. Numbers say that some 425 match officials, club officials ,players, and criminals are suspected to be involved not in the beautiful game, but in the criminal game of match-fixing.
Some of these matches include the nations’ majestic game-the world cup,European championship qualifiers, and some top matches in the European league. Reports say that 380 fixed matches found in Europe, and 300 others in Africa, Asia,and South and Central America.
Europol believes that the criminal group responsible for such networking throughout Europe is operating from Singapore. Moreover, Europol declared that some match-fixing have taken place in 15 countries and 50 people have been arrested up to present time.
In connection with this issue, match-fixing, which is causing a lot of headaches to the future of football around the world, we hope that the unleashed lavas of its volcanoes will not land in the Moroccan shores, and thus tints the reputation of the beautiful game in Morocco.
